Art fairs, empty hangers and barcodes
Art Fair Booth It has been a while since I have shared news from the Studio. August and September were full of art fair activities. By mid-November, all of my custom orders were finished and in the mail. I drove home from the St. Louis Art Fair with many empty hangers in the van from art fair sales. Empty hangers have a way of inspiring new work. That means you can look forward to seeing new designs. The website shopping cart has been turned back on. I sold so many pieces tha

Feeling grateful
Fall garden with white pumpkins, Hollyhocks, and Clematis. I have returned home from the Midwest and three art fairs in a row. My neglected garden welcomed me with white blooming Clematis, tall Hollyhocks, and (surprise) white pumpkins on the trellis. I thought they would be much smaller! I am profoundly grateful to each of you for following my textile journey and purchasing my work. The Saint Louis Art Fair broke all of my records for sales. But it was a rocky start. My mirr

Art in the Pearl this weekend
Come see my latest work at Art in the Pearl this weekend. I had a great show in Central Oregon, but there is still new work to see this weekend. Each garment I have made has a story behind it. Ask me!

The ABCs of why I make wearable art
Wearable art moves out in the world. It influences people.
A. Handwoven garments are a kind of armor that enhances.
B. Handwoven cloth puts beauty in the world.
C. The drape of the handwoven fabric gives comfort, not unlike a hug.

Sharing my excitement
As a designer/handweaver, which part comes first? It takes a lifetime of learning a craft to get to the point where an idea can be executed with the artist's voice. In my opinion, techniques contribute to the original concept but shouldn't overwhelm the completed garment. Color, drape, and fit are still essential to the final product.

Studying Jacquard Weaving and Three Shows
The August and September calendar pages are full. Not only do I have 3 upcoming shows, but I am going to study Jacquard weaving this fall. I continue to pursue new technology to use with my weaving and designing skills.
What is that? Well, the Jacquard loom uses punch cards to create elaborate designs
How does a Jacquard loom work?
The Jacquard loom is a loom developed in the early 1800s that used a series of punch cards to control weave operations. It is named fo

At the Salem Art Fair
Here is a glimpse into the 2022 Salem Art Fair. It has been over two years since I have done this. Not only did I find all the tent parts, but I remembered how to put them together! I also redesigned the display so that the racks are on the outside walls. Getting the booth display just right is an on-going challenge.
Enjoy this brief view of the fair. The weather has been lovely. Hope to see you soon. Hours on Sunday are 10-5 PM.

Change of Plans
The plan was to return to art fairs this fall. I have been packing the van, making new inventory, and redesigning my art fair booth in anticipation of traveling to 2021 art fairs. Those plans have now changed.
In order to minimize the risk to myself and my family, I must wait a little longer to return to art fairs. This has been a hard decision.
I am a creative person, looking for a solution to this situation. I have spent the past year learning how to go "Virtual". Now,

Like a Leaf on the Wind
Model Oksana Bell wears the Windy City Coat and is at her best dancing like a leaf in the wind.
I have had trouble sleeping lately. When most are fast asleep, I spend these wakeful hours creating short videos. The concept of showing the fabric in motion has been driving me to learn some video skills. Art Fairs, that were cancelled last year, are just starting to plan for Fall 2021. Until we can meet in person again, please enjoy these short videos.
